Though often viewed as a dog organization, Alberta Guide Dog Services is, in reality, an organization about people. When processing blind and visually impaired applicants for guide dog training, it is the goal of Alberta Guide Dog Services to see ability and not disability. Ultimately, all individual guide dog training programs are tailored to the needs of each individual.
The Mission of British Columbia & Alberta Guide Dog Services is to meet the demand for professionally trained Guide Dogs for blind and visually impaired citizens in British Columbia & Alberta, at all times meeting or exceeding the international standards as established by the International Guide Dog Federation.
British Columbia Guide Dog Services was incorporated as a registered charity June 28, 1996, becoming British Columbia’s first Guide Dog School.
In 2001, B.C. Guide Dog Services became a member of the International Guide Dog Federation, an international accrediting body.
British Columbia Guide Dog Services was registered as an extra-provincial society under the Society Act on August 8, 1996 in the Province of B.C.
British Columbia Guide Dog Services was registered as an extra-provincial corporation in Alberta on May 30, 2002.
